Arven in collaboration with Andreas Engesvik

We are celebrating our first 150 years by looking to the future and creating a unique piece of silverware designed by one of Scandinavias most renowned designers, Andreas Engesvik. Our Jubilee product, an elegant sterling silver candleholder has been given the name "Liv" after the designers daughter. Liv is made from 270 grams sterling silver and handcrafted in our workshop in Bergen. This is a limited production series of 150 pieces. Each piece is numbered and signed by the designer, Andreas Engesvik.

This beautiful handmade product is a great example of traditional silversmithing techniques in combination with the best of contemporary Scandinavian product design. It takes five experienced artisans to produce each piece. The production time is five hours. This is design and craftsmanship at it´s best. Liv has been made to be loved by generations to come.

Andreas Engesvik, speaking about "Liv"

I wanted to create a beautiful candlestick that encompass a clean and contemporary design. Silver is a wonderful material. Liv allowed us to work in different ways to shape the silver as we wanted it.

The design is inspired by natural forms while being handcrafted. In one way, the candlestick can be read as a floral motif. The "bud" is made up of flowing lines that one can associate with nature.

The cone-shaped rod is straight and geometrical – giving a more mechanical appearance (spun, polished and soldered), acting as a counterweight to the bud or candle holder. The bowl is a combination of the bud and the rod. It consists of flowing lines and a geometrical shape.

We used many different and complicated techniques in this work. The candlestick is molded and polished. The rod is cone-shaped, rolled and soldered. The bowl is equally round as it is square – and stamped and soldered with an adorned edge and base. The handwork is visible in each candlestick; each one is handmade and therefore slightly different.

The degree of precision and the shape of the candlestick have several functions. The candlestick should be a beautiful and interesting object, even without a candle. The candlestick was designed with the candle in mind as part of the holistic design, which includes the candlelight.

The bowl relates to the table in terms of shape. The shape and foot of the bowl contribute to the light and elegant expression. The bowl also catches candle wax that drips or runs off the candle.

The candlestick also creates beautiful reflections and reflects the objects on a table or during a meal where people are gathered.
